Volunteer Teachers for East-Timor

Location: Dili, East-Timor

AHHA Education (www.ahhaeducation.org) is an educational NGO based in 4 countries: Cambodia, East-Timor, Laos, and Japan. Currently, we are looking for volunteers to be based in East-Timor to carry out teaching projects.

Our main priority is to LOOK FOR VOLUNTEERS FROM SOUTH-KOREA AND PORTUGUESE SPEAKING COUNTRIES who will be able to teach Korean or Portuguese using our “science of language programs”. Volunteers don’t require any teaching experience or background.

WE ARE ALSO LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS from any country who have a background in “agriculture, car or motorcycle mechanics, electronics or any type of vocational skill” and are interested to teach and train others to develop those skills.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Volunteers must be able to:
a) communicate in English;
b) Strong interest in teaching.
c) Willing to live in rural settings.
d) Confident, flexible, responsible and motivated.
e) High levels of integrity and solid moral behavior.
f) Open to learning from new environments.
g) Ability to work independently while being a strong team player.
h) Demonstrate interest in education, NGO work and poverty alleviation issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

a) planning and preparing classes;
b) for Language Teaching, using the materials provided by the NGO;
c) teach according the educational needs of the students;
d) setting and marking of work to be carried out in and out of class;
e) assess and report the development, progress, and attainment of students;
f) for Vocational Skill Teaching: transfer skills to students through practice-based activities.

WORKING DAYS AND HOURS

1. The organization practices a 5-6 day work week with 6-8 hours of service per day (excluding lunch break).

FOOD & ACCOMMODATION

We provide food and accommodation for our volunteers.

Food: for breakfast we provide porridge and for lunch and dinner we provide rice-meals.

Accommodation: Our volunteers usually share a room with an attached bathroom. Boys and girls are separated from each other.
