Introduction:
I myself had been travelling for some time now, not to sight see, but to find a better community, more progressive, supportive, natural, healthy, advanced community. You know why? Because I was not happy with modern development and the path we were taking in the name of development.
I don't know about a better community but I realized that it's hard to learn everything in this short period of time on travel. I found good people, knowledge, ideas and dreams though.
With my experiences from travel, I want to host travelers and give them an experience, opportunity to get most of a short period of time from this one simple and small place.
And I wish to host such travelers, who are travelling with purpose, to learn, to understand, to connect, to change, to evolve.
The Family Here
When you stay with us, you'll be welcomed by a warm and unique family, each member contributing to the rich tapestry of life in Damak.
(The Father) is a gentle soul, a Buddhist and Hindu Newari Priest who embodies a simple, minimalist, and self-reliant life. He's a farmer with deep roots in ancient knowledge, including yoga, meditation, and Ayurvedic herbs. Having witnessed civil war and revolution firsthand, his quiet strength and wisdom are truly profound.
(The Mother) is the heart of our home. A dedicated housewife and farmer, she has a passion for cooking and delights in preparing delicious meals that will nourish your body and soul.
(The Fathers Sister) is also an integral part of the household. She's a skilled farmer and a wonderful cook, and you might even see her crafting beautiful straw mats and ropes with her own hands.
(The Younger Son) holds a degree in Geology and works as a government teacher. Though his work takes him far from home, he visits whenever he can, bringing a vibrant energy to the family.
(The Older Son) is a visionary. He's the founder of a non-profit organization dedicated to exploring how humans can live intelligently and in harmony with nature and technology. He's building a team of diverse experts, including:
Astrologers
Vastu Shastra Experts
Ayurveda Experts
Yoga and Meditation Guides
Web and Graphic Designers
Permaculture Farm Designers
Eco-Architect Designers
And more! This team aims to help people design their lives, homes, and farms in a way that fosters balance. If you possess relevant knowledge and skills, you might even have the opportunity to join Khem's team upon interview and training, offering a chance to experience his teachings and embrace unique challenges.
About This Place
This isn't a bustling tourist destination, business center, or industrial hub. We're located in an easygoing residential town, about 454 km east of Kathmandu, right on the border with India.
Our town has developed at a slower pace than some other areas, which might be why it feels cleaner and more peaceful than many other cities in Nepal. It's a quiet, laid-back place, yet you'll find almost all the facilities you need right here:
Essential Services: Banks, ATMs, good hospitals, and schools.
Leisure & Entertainment: 3-star hotels, clubs, restaurants, cafes, a shopping mall, tattoo shops, art galleries, and a swimming pool.
Activities & Hobbies: Cycling and MMA training clubs, free yoga centers, classical and modern music classes, potteries, and plant nurseries.
Community: Orphanages and elderly homes, mechanical shops, and libraries.
Beyond the town, there's plenty to explore:
To the North, you'll find hills perfect for hiking, camping, and fishing.
Further North is Illam, famous for its beautiful tea gardens.
To the East, about 47 km away, is the Indian border, and you'll also find the large Mawa and Ratwa Rivers to the East and West of town.
The South features expansive flat land.
We even have a local tea garden that belongs to the former Royal family, complete with their vacation palace.
WORKING ARRANGEMENT
Life in Our Home
In our home, we embrace a simple, minimalist lifestyle. While the world outside rushes towards consumerism, pollution, and conflict, we choose a life of peace and abundance.
We consciously limit our reliance on factory-made products, preferring to farm and manage our needs independently most of the time. Our house is nestled in nature, surrounded by fields, offering a tranquil escape that's still easily accessible from town.
Here, you'll experience authentic Nepali life. We cook and enjoy traditional Nepali food, drink underground water directly from nature (filtered in our home), and yes, we do have Wi-Fi and bikes to help you connect or explore.
Our property includes a small river meandering near our fields, abundant bamboo groves, and a lively collection of animals including cows, goats, ducks, chickens, and dogs. We live in our own small world, a cozy house built from wood, mud, and bamboo, reflecting our connection to the earth.
Work & Your Day
There's no set "work" for you here. While everyone in the family will be busy with daily tasksDad traveling, Mom in the kitchen and fields with animals, and Sister helping outyour time is your own. Life in nature means we work with the rhythms of the sun, moon, and seasons.
You're free to choose how you spend your time and who you'd like to help. Whether you want to lend a hand with farming or cooking, spend more time with Dad, Mom, or Sister, engage with the local community, or simply enjoy solitude, it's entirely up to you.
