Our main purpose is to host people who are interested in learning how to integrate spirituality into every day life. We will teach you how to communicate properly, how to have compassion for all, how to live in peaceful collaboration and cooperation, how to overcome hurdles of selfishness of any form and to develop your talents and gifts for the benefit of humanity etc. etc. This is done informally as we go through each day together, without pressure or manipulation, sometimes talking, sometimes working, sometimes playing, but always thinking. We find this the best form of learning together. Ours is a Jesus-centered approach without the limits of institutionalized "church". We are not a cult, a sect, a commune or any other organized group. There is no "joining", no money involved, and no obligation beyond being our valued guest. Thus, officially this is not a work-exchange program, more a retreat center, and you will not need a work visum should you come from another country.
WORKING ARRANGEMENT
We will treat our volunteers like family and work alongside them as we strongly believe in teamwork and collaboration (and close-knit community). Tasks are chosen according to their educational value and can include anything that is done on a low-tech homestead.
LIVING ARRANGEMENT
We have one basic guestroom at the moment, with a twin bed. An additional air mattress can be provided, or a tent if you wish to enjoy the outdoors at night. Conventional bathroom is shared, and we have a separate composting toilet for our personal use also, so there is no uncomfortable waiting time... We have a gluten free and mostly grain/milk producce/egg based diet, so if you crave meat all the time you are on your own to get some, though you are welcome to prepare it here. Please let us know of any food restrictions/sensitivities and we will try to accommodate these. In the cold months we cook on a wood stove and heat with wood. Our property is about 3 miles from town in the woods, so you would need a vehicle if you wish to explore the area. The Adirondack Park we live in has a lot of natural attractions you might enjoy. When we have time we could show you some with our small car if you like.
