The Amara Zee is now home ported in Jacksonville, Florida and is being retrofitted to begin it's new role as a unique Tall Ship Theater & Floating Stage making port calls up and down the 310 mile length of the mighty St. Johns River in addition to its sail training, education and research missions. The Amara Zee is a beautiful replica of a Thames Sailing Barge, sleeps 20 and will continue to conduct training cruises and events with a focus on crew recruitment & training and reestablishing robust operation and maintenance levels. Enjoy the beach, magic artesian springs and living dockside on the St. Johns River as you help us bring the AZ back to its full capabilities. WORKING ARRANGEMENT

Volunteers would primarily be involved in supporting the NCSCI's deck advisory volunteers and hull advisory volunteers to ensure a unified continuous effort in these areas. Volunteers would also be expected to serve as crew in support of the sail training and other events. 20 hours/week and 2 days off per week for a minimum of two and less than twelve weeks. Scuba/snorkeling experience a plus for the hull advisory and experience refitting teak/wooden decks is definitely a plus. You can expect routine crew events to build esprit and comradery. You may be expected to share a cabin during sail training events and to utilize the shore head as much as possible when docked. Even a really nice marine head is still a marine head and very finicky...

LIVING ARRANGEMENT

The AZ is typically docked at the "Bill Dye Marina" and crew quarters consist of a bunk in one of 6 cabins with three bunks each, a shore head & shower (primary) and an onboard head & shower (secondary/while underway). Fans are primary climate control. There is a fridge, freezer, an electric cook top and a sink for washing dishes.
