Location: Tasman, New Zealand

We seek mature (and maturity is only loosely correlated with age), hard-working people who would like to share our lifestyle while helping out around the place. Being cash poor, we would anticipate yourselves providing and cooking shared evening meals a couple of times a week and we would do likewise. The cottage you would sleep in is fully self-contained (we also rent it out) with a well-equipped kitchenette, so you would be able to do your own breakfasts and lunches.

The work is varied, but usually includes weeding! Other tasks workers have taken on include painting, firewood gathering, splitting and stacking, construction work, cleaning, goat milking and walking, pruning, cleaning out the chicken and/or goat house, and whatever else is going on. Our expectation regarding amount of work is that you would get involved in whatever tasks are under way and take reasonable innitiative. For us the relationship must be one of equals, not boss and workers, and to that end a sense of humour, some shared interests, and excellent English (since we are effectively monolingual) are essential.

In return we often take our guests for walks, mountainbike rides or tramps (hikes) and show them some of the local places of interest, as well as providing clean, comfortable accommodation in a lovely peacful setting.

As we are 35km from Nelson and 15km from Motueka (where the nearest supermarkets etc are) having your own vehicle is all but essential. We're happy to pick up and drop off at the bus stop 5km away, but don't offer a taxi service.
