Stay in Your Own Rustic Forest Cabin, Learn Practical Off-Grid Skills & Explore Northern NSW

Location: Lillian Rock, Australia
We're a family of four living on a beautiful forest property in Northern New South Wales, surrounded by nature and nestled between three spectacular national parks.

Over the last few years, we've been slowly building our own small off-grid cabin by hand. It's been a labour of love, resilience, learning, and many weekends of hard work. We're now looking for a helping hand to continue bringing the project to life while also helping us maintain our home and land.

This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys practical work, learning new skills, spending time in nature, and being part of a genuine family project.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

The best fit will be someone who:

Enjoys practical, hands-on work
Is comfortable working independently
Is self-sufficient and responsible
Appreciates nature and simple living
Has a positive attitude and strong work ethic
Enjoys learning new skills
Respects personal space and family life

We're friendly and social, but we also value privacy. Living remotely was a conscious lifestyle choice for us. As a busy family with young children, we can't take on another person to look after, so we're looking for someone independent who is comfortable managing their own time, meals, and daily routine.

That said, we'd love to get to know you, share stories, and occasionally enjoy a meal together when the opportunity arises.

THE AREA

Our property sits in the incredible Gondwana Rainforests, one of the world's most significant ancient rainforest systems.

We're surrounded by:

Mebbin National Park
Nightcap National Park
Border Ranges National Park
Wollumbin (Mount Warning)

The landscape was shaped by the ancient Tweed Volcano, one of the largest erosion calderas in the Southern Hemisphere.

The colourful and alternative town of Nimbin is approximately 20 minutes away by car.

There are some public transport options, but having your own vehicle will make exploring the area much easier.

A LITTLE ABOUT US

We're documenting our cabin-building journey on YouTube (Libakan Living), where we share the realities of creating a simple life in the forest.

If you're curious about who we are, what we're building, and the place you'll be staying, we'd encourage you to watch a few videos before applying.

For anyone interested in content creation, marketing, entrepreneurship, or storytelling, there may also be opportunities to share ideas and experiences beyond the practical work.

If you're looking for a genuine exchange, enjoy being outdoors, don't mind getting your hands dirty, and would like to be part of an ongoing forest homestead project, we'd love to hear from you.

THE EXCHANGE

We're flexible.

Generally, we ask for around 3 to 4 hours of help per day, with 1 to 2 days off each week.

We're more interested in finding the right person and maintaining a relaxed atmosphere. It's important for us that you are enjoying the space and the vibe.

LIVING ARRANGEMENT

THE ACCOMMODATION

You'll stay in our small timber cabin, tucked away in its own peaceful corner of the forest.

To set expectations clearly: the cabin is still a work in progress.

Currently it offers:

Comfortable queen bed
Basic electricity (almost complete)
Water access
Compost toilet nearby
Campfire cooking area
Camping gas cooking facilities
Privacy and independence away from the main house
Plenty of wildlife and forest surroundings

At this stage, think of it more as comfortable camping or glamping than finished accommodation.

The cabin area is separate from the house, giving everyone their own space. Our dogs stay around the main house, although our cat may occasionally come by to say hello.

Thanks for reading.
We look forward to meeting you, sharing our lifestyle with you, and learning about and from you!

Warmly,

Ps. This opportunity is best suited to people who genuinely enjoy practical outdoor work. While the accommodation is peaceful and unique, this is not a holiday stay. We're looking for volunteers who are motivated to contribute, learn, and be part of an active building and land-care project.
