Thinking about small-scale organic farming as a potential livelihood? Join us for a trial season without capital investment, risk, or living expenses. With our guidance, learn and practice your skills in soil care, cultivation, composting, vegetable growing, weeding and harvesting; CSA planning, development, and operation; livestock husbandry, biodynamic farming, fencing, building, horse farming, food preservation, community living, and general farm infrastructure and management. Work is full time (Saturday afternoon and Sunday off) and challenging. The work will give you basic preparation for farm life and for your own endeavor within the context of producing a season?s crop. Live Power Community Farm is a small-scale, horse and solar powered, diversified, 30 year old bio-dynamic CSA farm which has worked with apprentice training since its inception. We have 40 acres, 4 of which are a vegetable garden for 160 families in San Francisco and Mendocino counties. We also have laying hens, milk and beef cows, sheep, feeder pigs, draft horses, hay, intensive grazing, and some grain crops and fruit. For someone interested in whole grain bread making, we have a wood-fired bread oven. Live Power Community Farm is part of a network of 5 farms in Northern California that collectively provides a biodynamic apprentice training program during 7 weekend meetings on the various farms. We are also a teaching farm. During the season, the farm hosts 7-10 school classes from3rd to 10th grades as a way to give school age children an experience of farm life. The farm is located at about 1400 feet elevation in Round Valley in Mendocino County, California. The local population is about 2000. The valley has the largest Native American Reservation in California and is surrounded by the Eel River and the Mendocino National Forest. Local agriculture is cattle and hay raising and small organic herb and fruit growing. It is warm and dry during the summer with winter rains beginning in November. LPCF provides room, board, and a stipend for 4-5 apprentices and 1 salaried journeyman. For the 2005 season, March-December, we are in need of 3-4 apprentices. We want to work and live with healthy, preferably non-smoking individuals with a positive, disciplined and willing attitude. If you feel that this farm can fulfill some of your goals and you can commit your energy to the life of the farm for a season, please contact us via phone, email, or mail.
