Green Flamingo Organics in Oak Hill, FL

Location: Oak Hill, Florida, United States
We are a 2 acre mixed vegetable farm that also raises pastured poultry and laying hens. The farm is set behind 40 acres of citrus groves and about 100 acres or Florida wild. Currently we serve a 25 person CSA, 3 farmers markets, and local restaurants. Mary and I started the farm in March of 2009 as friends who had farmed and interned all over the country. This past season Mary has decided to move on and go to Graduate school so I am running the farm. on my own! I really enjoy hosting fellow travelers, farmers, and learners. I also have several school garden projects where I involve the kids in our community in growing their own organic food! Florida is a great place to garden as we have a long growing season- from September to June. We also are into cheese making, brewing, canning and preserving food, sprouting and enjoying our community of farmers and friends. We work closely with several other farmers in the area and are always trying new farming practices and new crops. This year new projects that I would like to explore are mushroom cultivation, more solar power and wind power on our farm. I would also like to start weekly yoga classes on the farm (mostly for the staff and me! but also for any volunteers and customers that would like to partake). We also have some great events each year to invite our customer base out to our farm- we have farm dinners, farm tours and in the spring our annual Farm Party to celebrate another year! Green Flamingo Organics tries to educate and feed the community.

We offer Volunteers primitive camping, veggies, eggs, chicken, and a $20 weekly stipend in exchange for 30 hrs/week and a minimum 2 week commitment. For longer term farm interns we offer camping or trailer space and a $50 weekly stipend in exchange for 35-40 hrs/week and a minimum 3 month commitment.

Or we also have one full season internship available. This position is for those interested in taking on the responsibility of helping to run our CSA and comes with a $100 a week stipend.

The farm is located down the road from the Merritt Island Wildlife Refuge, the Intracoastal waterway, and only 15 miles from really beautiful beaches. Intern space is a two trailers, with outdoor shower, a composting toilet, and outdoor kitchen facilities: propane stove/oven/grill, solar powered lighting, rainwater catchment sink. We are young, and have a good time working hard. As we are open to learning ourselves, I think we are a great place for others to learn. If you have any other questions please feel free to call or email me anytime.

Happy growing!
