This program is based in Karonga, a peaceful lakeshore district in northern Malawi known for its welcoming communities and strong need for social and health support.
What You Will Do
As a volunteer, you will play a meaningful role in both education and healthcare support:
Teaching & Mentorship
Support local schools with English, life skills, and basic education
Mentor young people, especially girls, on confidence, leadership, and personal development
Assist with after-school programs and community learning sessions
Community Empowerment
Work with youth and womens groups to promote human rights awareness
Help organize workshops on health, hygiene, and self-reliance
Contribute ideas that uplift and strengthen the local community
Hospital Support
Assist healthcare staff in non-clinical roles at local hospitals
Help with patient support, organization, and basic administration
Participate in health awareness campaigns (e.g., hygiene, nutrition, maternal health)
WORKING ARRANGEMENT
Volunteers are expected to contribute in a structured but flexible environment that allows both impact and personal growth.
Working Hours:
46 hours per day, 5 days a week
Schedule:
Activities usually take place from Monday to Friday, with weekends free for rest, travel, or cultural exploration
Flexibility:
Tasks may vary depending on ongoing projects, community needs, and the volunteers skills and interests
Teamwork:
Volunteers will work closely with local staff, community members, and other volunteers in a supportive environment
Days Off:
2 days off per week
Commitment:
A minimum stay is encouraged to ensure meaningful contribution and connection with the community
LIVING ARRANGEMENT
Volunteers will stay in a warm and welcoming family environment, hosted in my home with my parents. This offers a unique opportunity to experience authentic Malawian daily life and culture.
Accommodation is provided in a spacious apartment with 6 bedrooms
Volunteers will be given free rooms (shared or private depending on availability)
Basic but comfortable setup including bed, mattress, and mosquito net
Access to shared bathroom and kitchen facilities
Electricity and water are available (with occasional interruptions, as is common locally)
Nutritious local meals are provided free of charge
