Help Teaching in Tanzania Rural and Urban Primary and Secondary Schools.

Location: Arusha, Tanzania
Description

We are a very young dynamic organization based in Ilboru Arusha. Our aim is to bring people from different backgrounds together to build a quality education system for children in primary schools all around Ilboru. We believe that through education we can build a brighter future for our next generation.

We are constantly looking for people from all around the globe that want to make an impact on our children's education doesn't matter where you are from and what your path of life has been, we want to work with you and others who would like to share their potential skills, knowledge and time with our kids and our community.

Help
We are looking for volunteers to support our schools around Ilboru. In primary schools, the focus lies on improving the English skills of young children from the age of 3 to 13, so that they can progress on to secondary school. Children in primary schools usually speak very little English, so volunteers need to be able to connect with them using simple teaching methods.

Along teaching English, volunteers in primary schools can implement other activities into the daily timetable to engage the young minds in creative ways through role-playing, arts and crafts or taking part in stimulating learning games.
In secondary schools, in addition to improving the standard of spoken and written English, the focus for the pupils aged between 13 and 17, is to deepen their knowledge on subjects like mathematics, geography, history, science, computer skills, life skills and so on.

There are also opportunities for volunteers in both primary and secondary schools to run after-school sporting activities, as well as getting involved in wider community development program.

Volunteers typically teach or assist a teacher with classes from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm five days per week. Lunch is provided either by the school or the host family. The rest of the day is free for the volunteer to explore our beautiful region.

We will make sure we find a class where you can fully utilize your skills, whether you are strong in languages, science or in singing songs with our children.

Accommodation
We offer you the possibility to stay with one of our host families and experience the Tanzanian life from its roots. We personally know all of the families we place our volunteers with and we guarantee that you will be "feeling home" in no time. Depending on where your host family lives, your journey to the school can be 5 to 40 minutes walk. The volunteers have to support their host families with $10 a day which will help the host families to provide three meals a day which include Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

We are looking for people who are willing to teach any subject or to simply assist a teacher with his/her class. Our pupils truly love working with the volunteers, so be creative and they will definitely take part. At the school there are always teachers around to help you translate English to Swahili and inform you about what the students are currently studying. You are always welcome to bring reading books and school materials for your teaching.

We would be happy to hear from you and talk about your plans.
