Help us renovate our flat in Stockholm - Sweden
Location: Stockholm, Sweden
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
We're a young couple in Stockholm, no kids, just us and our big dreams and this apartment we bought that turned out to be way more of a project than we ever expected. You know how it goes, you think "oh, we'll just paint the walls and change the floors," and then suddenly you're tearing down wallpaper from 1972, discovering three layers of linoleum, and wondering if that crack in the ceiling has always been there or if the building is slowly giving up. It's a DIY adventure that grew a bit too big for just the two of us, and honestly, we could really use a hand.
We're currently living in another rental flat nearby while we work on the place, so you'd be staying with us there—it's cozy, it's got everything you need, and we'll make sure you have your own space to retreat to when you need a break from all the sanding and drilling. The renovation flat is just a short walk or bike ride away, so we'll head over together in the mornings, put on some music or a podcast, and get to work.
What kind of help do we need? Pretty much everything. We're not professionals, so we're learning as we go, and we don't expect you to be an expert either. Maybe it's helping us tear down old wallpaper, patching holes in the walls, painting (lots of painting), sanding floors, assembling IKEA (of course IKEA!) furniture (the ultimate test of any relationship), or just holding things in place while one of us drills. It's physical, it's messy, and sometimes it's frustrating, but it's also really satisfying to see the place slowly transform. We'll figure it out together, and we promise there will be fika breaks—lots of them, because this is Sweden after all.
We're looking for someone to stay at least two weeks, but if you're having fun and we're not driving each other crazy, we're totally open to longer. We're pretty relaxed people, we like good conversation, we cook and eat together (we're not strictly vegetarian or anything, we eat a bit of everything), and we genuinely enjoy meeting travelers from all over. We're not the kind of hosts who hover or micromanage—we trust you to be responsible and proactive, to see what needs doing and just do it, and to take breaks when you need them.
Speaking of breaks, we're super strict about keeping it to maximum 5 hours a day, and often it's less than that—some days we might just work four hours and call it a day if we're tired or if the weather is too beautiful to stay indoors. Weekends are completely free for you to explore Stockholm, which honestly is one of the most stunning cities in the world. You can wander through Gamla Stan with its cobblestone streets, take a ferry out to the archipelago islands, swim in the cleanest city water you've ever seen, visit the Vasa Museum, or just cycle around and get lost in the neighborhoods. We'll happily give you tips on the best spots, the best cinnamon buns, and the best hidden gems that tourists usually miss.
What we're hoping for is someone open-minded, active, and friendly—someone who doesn't mind getting a bit dusty and sweaty, who can laugh when things go wrong (and they will go wrong), and who enjoys hanging out in the evenings with a glass of wine or a beer, sharing stories from their travels, and maybe playing some cards or watching a movie. We're pretty social but also respect your space—if you need a quiet night in, that's totally fine too.
So if you're up for a Stockholm adventure that involves paint-stained clothes, good music, lots of coffee, and the satisfaction of turning a wreck into a home, send us a message. Tell us about yourself, what brings you to Sweden, and why helping two slightly overwhelmed but very determined people renovate their dream apartment sounds like fun to you.
We can't wait to meet you and show you our favorite corners of this beautiful city.
