Long-term dog sanctuary volunteer / work-exchange

Location: Bucharest, Romania

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Penny’s Ark is a small independent dog sanctuary in rural Romania, around 40 minutes inland from Bucharest. We are looking for a person or couple who would like to become part of sanctuary life for a longer stay.
HOW LONG WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Ideally, we’re looking for someone who can commit for at least 3–6 months. Longer would be even better. This role is suited for someone who wants to settle in, learn the dogs and the routine, and become part of the sanctuary team.

WHAT THE DAYS LOOK LIKE
The general rhythm is around 4–5 hours of help per day. What that looks like can vary depending on what needs doing and what you’re good at. It could include dog care, feeding, cleaning, walking, helping with socialisation and basic training, general sanctuary upkeep, practical jobs, organisation, administration, fundraising, social media, photography, maintenance or DIY.
WORKING ARRANGEMENT
The exact schedule, responsibilities and overall terms can be discussed with the right person. We’re happy to shape the arrangement around useful experience and skills, what the sanctuary needs, and how long you’re able to commit.
LIVING ARRANGEMENT
We can provide an updated, private two-bedroom chalet all to yourself. It’s not quite off-grid, but close, with mains water, solar power and heating, so you get the self-sufficient rural lifestyle without giving up the basics. Food expenses can be covered.
