Restoration project at Castle Ellen House, Athenry, Co Galway, Ireland 🏰🔨

Castle Ellen House is an ongoing restoration project, covering both the house and the surrounding grounds. Michael has dedicated himself to bringing the place back to its former state. Progress can be slow, but piece by piece, this beautiful "Big House" is being continually transformed.

We can accommodate 1 to 2 people for 1 to 2 weeks. This is a place for those who appreciate history, quiet work, and the slow satisfaction of bringing an old building back to life. The work varies depending on what is needed at the time, and you will be part of a long-term effort to preserve something meaningful.The work involves various aspects of restoration, both inside the house and in the grounds. Tasks may include clearing, cleaning, painting, basic repairs, gardening, and general maintenance. The work is not always glamorous, but it is honest and rewarding. We are looking for people who are practical, patient, and happy to get stuck in, regardless of the task. Progress is slow, but every small step counts.Accommodation is very basic, in the spirit of the project itself. A simple room is provided, along with a food allowance to cover your meals. There is a basic electric shower available. This is not a luxury stay, but it is a genuine experience for those who want to be part of a real restoration project.
