The Aloha Garden of Maui

Location: Kula, Maui, Hawaii, USA
We are creating an educational and sustainable botanical garden, farm and plant nursery on 9.6 acres in Kula, Maui, Hawaii based on the Aloha Spirit. Located below Haleakala in Kula, it is at roughly a 1500 feet elevation and our site offers gorgeous views of the Halekalala volcano, along with bicoastal views from Kahului to Kihei and Maui’s countryside. At night you can enjoy stargazing and basking under the Maui Moon. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 55°F to 85°F and is rarely below 50°F or above 88°F. While a nursery, small coffee and citrus farm are in started, we are developing the gardens (in a variety of styles) and structures which requires a lot of work and diverse skills. We offer a camping experience with tent accommodations, spectacular views, a fire pit, seating to enjoy the night sky and more. On Friday evenings, we host a dinner barbeque around 6:30pm, along with a big breakfast on Sunday mornings around 8:00am for those want to join us. If you are honest, hard-working, have personal integrity, are detail oriented, mature, intelligent, have a positive outlook, are kind and caring, and want to help make the world a better and more beautiful place, than we would enjoy getting to know you and sharing more about this opportunity. In these COVID times it is important that all on property follow COVID guidelines so we can protect each other. With 9.6 acres, we can spread out the work so people are social distanced, but masks are to be worn in close proximity and in shared areas. As we are not a medical facility, should someone come down with COVID-19, they would need to leave to receive appropriate care, whether traveling home, going to an appropriate facility, or to the hospital. We schedule Zoom, Skype or Facetime calls with guests in advance to get to know each other. Guests are expected to work 5 hours a day for 5 days a week, on a rotating schedule, with 2 full days off per week and afternoons off so there is time to truly explore Maui. Work shifts are generally 7am to 12pm Monday - Friday and 9am-2:30pm with a 1/2 hr. lunch on Saturday & Sunday. Jobs are based on one's skillset and include: grade land, landscape and maintain areas (weeding, fertilizing, mowing, tree trimming, etc.), build rock walls, install irrigation systems, nursery work (planting, weeding), create path and walkways, tend to fruit and vegetable garden, build and maintain various structures, and more. Desired skill sets include: Aqua and/or Hydroponics, Building & Construction, Carpentry/Woodworking, Equipment Repair, Irrigation Installation & Repairs, Landscaping & Landscape Maintenance, Masonry, Nursery Work, Planting, Weeding, Weed Wacking and Sustainable Farm & Garden Practices. We are a tobacco-free garden and farm. We have no tolerance for drug or alcohol abuse, illegal activity, prejudice, or disrespect/harassment toward any man, woman or child. Should that occur, it would be cause for immediate departure. There are many things to do on Maui, including: surfing, beautiful beaches, biking, hiking, running, snorkeling, scuba diving, fishing and more. We can provide a shared vehicle for those with a valid drivers license and good driving record, however, if you have a bicycle you may want to bring it.
