The farm is located 15 minutes drive north of Point Arena in coastal Mendocino County, CA 18 acres CCOF-certified for 20 years: farming activities include a 40 member CSA, weekly farmers market and local and regional accounts with stores, restaurants and organic wholesalers. We specialize in growing antique and heirloom apple varieties with 55 varieties currently grown in our orchard. Our current major goal is to move to year-round farming, using more green houses and row covers. Volunteers are expected to make a commitment of a minimum of 3 months after a one week trial period with preference given to longer stays. We accept applications year round. Experience is desirable but not necessary; we look for self-motivated, cheerful candidates. Please make an appointment and do not "drop by". Candidates are provided with wood-heated housing and farm-grown food, including fruit, vegetables, eggs and meat, as available. We often are engaged in building and repair projects. Right now we are building a new packing shed for our produce. Interns work a minimum of 30 hours per week. We usually have 3 or 4 interns living on the property as well as several paid staff and children. OZ Farm runs a licensed retreat center hosting such activities as Yoga groups, family reunions Tai Chi workshops and weddings. Farm helpers are involved in cabin cleaning and trail maintenance, firewood processing and the like as well as farming activities. We also manage a sustainable timber operation of our redwood and fir forests and some interns become involved in trail building and maintenance in our forestland. The Garcia River flows through this 330 acre property and restoration of the river's salmon and steelhead fishery has been a priority for us. We can pick applicants up at the MTA bus stop in Point Arena by per-arrangement. Sorry, we cannot accommodate any pets or children. We have French speakers on staff.
