Basically weeding and pulling vines down - you will never have to worry about having nothing to do .I don;t think you will find the work hard but you do have to be aware that some beneficial plants , such as the berries and touch sensitive ferns do have thorns and this area is known for its Little Fire Ant (Argentinian) population - they sting but if you are careful and know what you are looking for you will have no problem.
I would be nice if you could bring a pair of work gloves , I also always recommend that anyone visiting the big Island bring a headlight - it gets dark here at night.
If you are visiting the Big Island and don't want to stay in a hotel you can stay here , help 2 hours per day and then go explore this beautiful Island.
I ask that you please remove shoes upon entering the house .
- Room with 2 single beds. I will provide breakfast .
- Hawaii has the most expensive electricity in the US so we do not waste water (it is pumped by electric water pump and heated by electric water heater) ,
we do not leave lights on when not in use or open the refrigerator for longer than a few seconds.
- Sorry , I do not offer an open kitchen . I will handle all cooking and garbage disposal .
- I will make room in my refrigerator/kitchen for your snacks/drinks .
I ask that any eating is done over the dining table - not while walking around .
- Please no food in your room , tiny fire ants have incredible sense of smell and are everywhere - my building is free of them at this time and I would like to keep it that way ,
- My home has a water catchment system , this water is treated and filtered but is not for drinking . I provide bottled water for drinking that comes from the Hawaii County water station in Nanawale .
-There is a place outside for smokers but not in my cedar house , thank you. (vaping is no problem).
My place is 5 miles north of Issac Halle beach park a few more to warm ponds , tidal pools and black sand beaches.
5 miles south of Pahoa town with basic shopping and very good dining options.
The Big Island is .... well .. a BIG island , it really is hard to get around without a car as mass transport on this island is really not very reliable.
Little ( Argentinen ) Fire Ants are a real problem in this region of Hawaii , I am constantly fighting them (organically) in the yard - I will not accept guests when I am treating a house invasion .
I do not have a coffee machine , I stock instant coffee and at least 2 types of tea .
My home is in the rain forest - surrounded by lots and lots of trees .These trees are the home to lots and lots of Coqui frogs - they do their mating call at night - its LOUD . Though some people like sleeping to this sound - some do NOT .
PLEASE watch a YouTube video of the Coqui frogs and get an idea of what a night spent in my home sounds like .
