TAKAWIRI ISLAND COMMUNITY PROJECTS
I am the founder and overseer of community-based development and charity projects in Takawiri Island, Lake Victoria, Kenya, dedicated to improving the lives of local people while protecting the island's unique natural environment.
Our vision is to build a stronger, healthier and more self-reliant community through agriculture, food security, education, charity, youth empowerment, environmental conservation, aquaculture and responsible tourism.
One of our key initiatives is the Takawiri School Feeding Program, which aims to provide nutritious meals to children at school. We believe no child should struggle to learn because of hunger. We hope to connect the feeding program with our agricultural activities so that locally produced food can contribute to school meals while supporting farmers.
Our agricultural projects promote sustainable and environmentally responsible farming, including the production of crops such as bananas, maize, potatoes and vegetables. We aim to improve household food security, create income opportunities and encourage young people to see agriculture as a sustainable livelihood. We also support the vision of responsible fish farming and aquaculture as an additional source of food and income.
Education and youth empowerment are central to our mission. We hope to support children with learning materials and develop a community computer and digital skills center where young people and adults can gain valuable skills for education, employment and entrepreneurship.
Our charity work also seeks, whenever resources allow, to assist vulnerable families, children, elderly people and other community members through food, educational support, agricultural assistance and other practical forms of help. We believe charity should provide immediate support while also creating opportunities for long-term independence.
Environmental conservation is equally important. Takawiri is blessed with crystal-clear Lake Victoria waters, beautiful white sandy beaches, spectacular sunrises and sunsets, diverse birdlife and welcoming people. We promote responsible farming, cleanliness, conservation and sustainable use of natural resources.
Takawiri also has great potential for responsible community-based tourism. Visitors can enjoy the beaches, wildlife, birdlife, island culture, local hospitality and comfortable hotels while supporting local businesses and livelihoods.
We welcome volunteers, travelers, donors, organizations, businesses and well-wishers who would like to contribute their time, skills, resources or partnerships.
