Looking for volunteers to help teach children from low income families in Siem Reap (Cambodia)

Location: Siem Reap, Cambodia
Hello,

Our names are Savuth and Savon and we founded ECC School (Educating Center for Community) in March 2014, we are located 5km from Siem Reap center (Cambodia). Today the school is run by us together with a group of international volunteers.

We are looking for volunteers who can help us for or a minimum of 3 weeks or longer. We need motivated, creative and happy people who like to be around children. The children at the school are amazing and extremely eager to learn. We teach English classes, French classes, computer classes, music classes and occasionally science, history and geography depending on the volunteers we have over. We also do sports classes and have our own little football team. There is no teaching experience required and you dont need to be a native speaker. We have designed an easy to follow lesson guide and syllabus that was specifically created for new or inexperienced teachers.

If you are not comfortable with teaching there are other projects within ECC that we need assistance with. We need volunteers to help us with gardening (we want to build a vegetable garden for the children), construction, administration, finance, IT, fundraising, volunteer recruitment and general maintenance of the school.

This is very much a volunteer run organization and we have the vision to empower the youth and local community through education. All classes are provided free of charge to children in the community. There are no strict expectations placed upon volunteers, but in order for the program to grow and be successful we are seeking self-motivated, creative and passionate volunteers to help us. We have much flexibility in our schedules and if you want you are able to create and implement ideas that would be of benefit to the school. Creativity and ambition are the key to success and always welcome here! With Siem Reap city center only a 20 minute bike ride away (10 minutes by motorcycle or tuk tuk), any free time between classes and on weekends is yours to explore Siem Reap, Angkor Wat, Tongle Sap and the beautiful surrounding countryside.

The most important aspect of this project is the children - what we do here is providing an opportunity for each child to be better equipped for the future. This area is a hub of tourism due to Angkor Wat and the surrounding temples. This means that mastery of English and proficiency in other languages provide the local people with a more diverse and abundant choice of bright careers. This organization relies on volunteers not only for managing the organization and teaching at the school but also to partially fund it. We contribute a daily fee of $6 that goes towards your food (3 yummy meals per day), lodging (dorms and private rooms), and utilities. Any residual is put towards growing the school and its projects.

This is a genuine project with owners who are making a very real and meaningful effort to improve the lives of children through education. The hosts have deconstructed parts of their own home to provide building materials for the school and build lodges for the volunteers. This is a labor of love for everyone involved!
